For decades mainstream management of nature has been target-oriented and based on the stewardship approach implying that humans intervene even in areas where natural ecosystems are in focus. Nature management has implied preference for specific species, mimicking extensive agricultural systems, focusing on target ecosystems or assemblages of species.
Novel nature skips the stewardship approach. Novel nature rests on the idea that nature finds a way, that no species or system has specific value over others. Novel nature accepts the impact of Anthropocene, i.e. the exchange of species, the influence of farming and forestry, but sets the natural development off the leash. Novel nature does not accept stewardship.
Novel nature enhances the free flow of genes and the free development of new systems – as nature did before humans. Nature doesn’t care.

Peter’s intention is to contribute to a sustainable development with nature as the leverage towards eco-friendly and considered tourism, development of nature in all of Denmark as well as the rest of the planet. His ambition is to inspire others to cooperate and invest with a focus on a green approach and with the background of love for nature around the world. The economic model is inspired by other comparable, where foundations from commercial real estate activities are funnelled into nature projects (Internationally referred to as “red for green”).
Kaj Kjær Flora & Fauna’s economy is partially based on the founding capital and partially on recurring income from and rate of return on the Foundations assets. The construction benefits investments in nature, where the public resources are all or partially insufficient in comparison to the challenges society is facing regarding the current climate adjustment and biodiversity crisis.
The Foundation has a great cooperation with the public regulatory bodies, in particular the Municipality of Jammerbugt and The Danish Nature Agency, as well as the Municipality of Brønderslev. The Foundation also has a constructive dialogue with the local tourism and business parties. There is a wish from the foundations side to contribute to a sustainable local economy based on inherent, cultural values and resources.
